This Thanksgiving is your chance to do more and be grateful for all that you have. Chances are there’s a turkey trot in your community– do a little googling and see what you can find. Here in DC, SOME hosts an annual trot to raise money on Thanksgiving day, helping to put a little perspective in all our lives.
SOME’s Turkey Trot is a flat and fast 5K run/walk and a one mile fun-run for the kiddos. If running isn’t your thing you can always volunteer or go cheer on the runners! This is a great organization and a fun tradition I’ve been able to start with my family. It’s nice to find a way to make the holiday a little bit more about helping your community and a little less about stuffing your face.
According to SOME:
- $5 provides a family or individual with a full bag of emergency groceries
- $15 provides a hearty hot lunch to 10 hungry men, women and children
- $30 provides one month of life-saving medication for a homeless patient
- $50 provides a day and night of supportive housing for a homeless family
It’s amazing how much you can do for so little. Take a few minutes and think how you can give back this Thanksgiving!
